How to Farm Crypto Airdrops in 2026: The Complete Free vs. Paid Guide
From zero to 24+ airdrops: the exact toolkit, the $0 free path, the paid path, Sybil rules, and scam protection — everything I wish I knew on day one.

In 2022, I started with nothing. No capital, no mentor. Just a phone, YouTube tutorials, and Telegram groups.
For the first six months, my earnings only covered my monthly internet data. I kept going anyway. Since then I've received 24+ airdrops across 28 ecosystems, including Aptos ($3,600), Arbitrum ($4,000), and Fuel ($12,000), worth an estimated $125K in total.
This guide is everything I wish I'd known on day one. It has two paths: a Free path for people starting with $0, and a Paid path for people with a small budget who want to move faster.
What an airdrop looks like in 2026
An airdrop is a free token distribution that rewards a protocol's early users. The game has changed a lot, though. Most projects now run points programs and use advanced Sybil detection. They reward consistent, real usage, not task spam or multi-wallet farms.
Some projects never launch a token. Others filter out accounts that look fake, automated, or created only to claim rewards. Treat every campaign as a bet, not a paycheck.
“Points aren't tokens. Almost every points program says so in its own documentation. A confirmed allocation without a published formula is still a guess about your share.”
Free vs. Paid at a glance
- Starting capital — $0 — Roughly $50–$500 you can afford to lose
- Main activities — Testnets, quests, identity stamps, free task farms — Real usage on L2s, liquidity, points programs
- Tools — Free wallets, faucets, free trackers — Hardware wallet, premium analytics
- Speed — Slow; builds skill and on-chain history — Faster, with real financial risk
- Biggest risk — Wasted time — Lost funds, scams, price drops
What you need: the complete toolkit
Download every tool below only from its official website. Fake wallet apps and cloned sites are one of the most common ways people lose funds.
Rabby Wallet [Free] — Your main wallet for Ethereum and EVM chains like Arbitrum and Base. Think of it as your farming wallet — the one you'll use to interact with protocols and earn airdrops. What makes Rabby special for beginners: it shows you a preview of every transaction before you sign, and its risk scan warns you about suspicious contracts. Available as browser extension plus iOS/Android. Download: Rabby Wallet
MetaMask [Free] — The most widely supported crypto wallet — almost every dApp works with it. Same basic job as Rabby: it stores your keys and connects you to protocols. Keep it as a backup for the rare sites where Rabby doesn't connect. Download: MetaMask
Phantom [Free] — The go-to wallet for Solana. If you want Solana-ecosystem airdrops, you need this — it handles SOL tokens, NFTs, and DeFi positions in one clean interface. Available as browser extension and mobile app. Download: Phantom
Trezor [$59–$249] — A hardware wallet: a physical device that keeps your crypto offline, safe from hackers and phishing. Use this as your vault for funds you don't actively farm with. Models: Safe 3 ($59), Safe 5 ($129), Safe 7 ($249) — a one-time cost. Buy only from the official store, never from marketplaces. Download: Trezor
Ledger [Paid] — The main hardware-wallet alternative to Trezor. Same idea: an offline vault for your main funds while your hot wallets do the farming. Buy only from the official store — fake devices from third-party sellers can steal your funds. Download: Ledger
Bitwarden [Free] — A password manager. You'll create dozens of accounts across exchanges, quest platforms, and protocols. Bitwarden generates and stores a unique strong password for each one, so a single hack can't compromise everything else. Download: Bitwarden
Google Authenticator [Free] — App-based two-factor authentication (2FA). Turn it on for every exchange and important account. Use an authenticator app, never SMS codes — SIM-swap attacks let thieves steal your phone number and reset your accounts. Download: Google Authenticator
Proton Mail [Free] — A separate, encrypted email used only for crypto. Keeping your farming accounts isolated from your personal email means one compromise doesn't cascade into the other. Turn on 2FA here too. Download: Proton Mail
Revoke.cash [Free] — Every time you use a dApp, you grant it permission to spend your tokens — and old approvals are a favorite attack vector. Revoke.cash shows you every active approval across your wallets and lets you remove them. Make it a habit: revoke after every claim or new dApp. Download: Revoke.cash
Human Passport [Free] — Proof that you're a real human, not a bot farm. Many airdrops now use it to filter out Sybil attackers. Connect your accounts (GitHub, X, etc.) to build a score — 20+ usually marks you as a unique human and unlocks eligibility. Download: Human Passport
Galxe [Free] — The largest quest platform in crypto. Projects post tasks here — follow on X, join Discord, try a testnet — and reward you with points or NFTs that can lead to airdrops. Most major campaigns run on Galxe, so this is where beginners should start looking. Download: Galxe
Layer3 [Free*] — DeFi-focused quests with CUBE credentials — soulbound NFTs that prove you completed a task on-chain. CUBEs build your on-chain resume, which some airdrops check. *Minting CUBEs can carry small gas fees. Download: Layer3
DefiLlama Airdrops [Free] — Tracks roughly 2,000 protocols that don't have a token yet — each one a potential future airdrop. Its free eligibility checker covers EVM and Solana. Use this as your research starting point before committing time to any farm. Download: DefiLlama Airdrops
CryptoRank [Free] — An airdrop-hunting dashboard with task tracking across projects. It helps you organize which airdrops you're actively farming, what's completed, and what's left — essential once you're juggling more than two or three farms. Download: CryptoRank
DropsTab [Free / $29 mo] — Airdrop tracker with fundraising data and VC portfolio info — useful for judging whether a project is worth your time. The free tier covers the basics; Pro ($29/month) unlocks token-unlock schedules and deeper analytics for serious farmers. Download: DropsTab
DeBank [Free] — A portfolio dashboard showing every wallet and DeFi position you hold across EVM chains in one view. When you're farming with multiple wallets, DeBank is how you keep track of where your funds actually are. Download: DeBank
Google Sheets [Free] — Your farming log. Record every wallet address, every protocol you touch, every task completed, and every claim. Without a written log you will lose track — guaranteed. See the tracking template in section 09. Download: Google Sheets
Google Cloud Sepolia Faucet [Free] — Free testnet ETH for the Sepolia network. Just log in with a Google account — no mining, no buying. Testnet tokens cost nothing and are the fuel for the entire $0 free path in section 05. Download: Google Cloud Sepolia Faucet
Arbitrum Sepolia Faucet [Free] — Free testnet ETH for the Arbitrum Sepolia L2 testnet. You'll need this specifically for farming Arbitrum-ecosystem testnets, which are separate from Ethereum mainnet Sepolia. Download: Arbitrum Sepolia Faucet
Etherscan [Free] — The block explorer for Ethereum. Before you interact with any contract or token, verify it here: check the contract address, token holders, and transaction history. If a token isn't verified on Etherscan, treat it as suspicious. Download: Etherscan
Solscan [Free] — The block explorer for Solana — same job as Etherscan but for the Solana network. Verify token mints, inspect wallets, and confirm transactions before you trust them. Download: Solscan
X (Twitter) [Free] — Where projects announce airdrops, deadlines, and claim links. Follow official project accounts and turn on notifications. Critical rule: only click claim links posted by verified official accounts — scammers impersonate projects constantly. Download: X (Twitter)
Discord [Free] — Project communities. Many airdrops require Discord roles like verified holder or active member, earned by participating genuinely. Never trust DMs — real admins will never message you first; every official announcement happens in public channels. Download: Discord
Telegram [Free] — Alpha groups and project announcement channels — this is where I learned everything when I started. Same safety rule as Discord: ignore all DMs, trust only official announcement channels. Download: Telegram
Set up security before anything else
I use a simple three-wallet system:
- Vault (cold storage): long-term funds, ideally on a Trezor or Ledger. Never connect it to random dApps.
- Main wallet: trusted protocols and the activity you actually want counted toward airdrops.
- Burner wallet: new, unknown, or experimental dApps. Keep only a small balance in it.
Golden rules
- Write your seed phrase on paper. Never type it into a website, chat, or "support" form. No legitimate airdrop will ever ask for it.
- Hide unknown tokens in your wallet settings, and never interact with tokens you didn't expect.
- Revoke approvals with revoke.cash after every claim or new dApp.
- A hardware wallet won't save you from signing a malicious transaction. Always read what you sign.
The Free path, step by step $0
“Free means $0 capital, not zero cost. You pay with time, and you'll eventually need a little gas to claim. That's exactly how I started.”
- Week 1 Build your foundation Install Rabby (or MetaMask) and Phantom. Create a main wallet and a burner wallet.
- Set up Bitwarden, a crypto-only Proton Mail, and an authenticator app.
- Follow official project accounts on X and Discord. Turn on notifications only for announcement channels.
- Week 2 Build your Human Passport score Open Human Passport and connect the free Stamps first. Aim for a score of 20. StampApprox. weightEffort ETH Activity22.5Needs real transaction history GitHub6.0Commits on 30+ distinct days Discord2.8One-click connect LinkedIn1.5One-click connect Google0.5One-click connect Weights change regularly; the last change was in January 2026. Human Passport also runs HUMN Points for users with a score of 20+.
- Week 3 Start on testnets Claim free Sepolia ETH from the Google Cloud Faucet on the Ethereum Sepolia testnet.
- Each L2 has its own Sepolia testnet. Use the matching faucet, such as the Arbitrum Faucet.
- Test every feature the app offers: swaps, staking, bridging, and feedback forms.
- Week 4 onward Quests and free task farms Use Galxe and Layer3, but only for protocols you actually use.
- Check DefiLlama's eligibility checker regularly. Your existing activity may already qualify.
Free task farm example
- Control a simulated robot arm in your browser. No hardware and no capital needed.
- Points settle in two-week epochs: each closes Friday 00:00 UTC and points land Monday 12:00 UTC.
- The token isn't confirmed, and points carry no claim right.
The Paid path, step by step $50–$500
- Step 1 Set a budget and protect it Decide a monthly budget and stop when costs stop making sense.
- Never use money meant for rent, food, emergency savings, or loan payments.
- Buy a hardware wallet for your vault: Trezor Safe 3 starts at $59.
- Step 2 Pick protocols with data, not hype Sort DefiLlama's tokenless protocols by TVL. High TVL with no token is the strongest airdrop signal.
- Add DropsTab Pro ($29/mo) for fundraising and unlock data.
- Check for a working product, a real community, audits, and transparent funding.
- Step 3 Be a real user, consistently Use the product the way it's meant to be used: swap, bridge, lend, stake, provide liquidity, vote.
- Spread activity across days and weeks, not one burst.
- Prefer low-fee L2s and batch transactions. Many farmers spend more than they earn.
- Step 4 Points programs (higher capital, higher risk) These are mostly trading-based, so they carry trading risk on top of airdrop risk.
- Plans 30% of future EXT supply for points holders.
- Points are capped at 70M; about 69.2M were already distributed by Oct 6, 2026, so the window is nearly closed.
- Wash trading, self-referrals, and multi-account abuse get slashed before TGE.
- Any claim will be announced only on its official X account.
- VAR TGE scheduled for Q4 2026, with 32% of supply going to the genesis airdrop.
- Weekly points distributions end no later than the end of Q4 2026.
- Eligibility requires at least 1 point and signing the $VAR Terms of Service.
- Omni is in private beta and needs an access code.
- Season 1 started Oct 1, 2026, with points every Wednesday. It ends by H1 2027 at the latest.
- Reported at 250,000 points per week. Check the current number in the app.
- Rewards trading quality, market making, deposits, and referrals.
- Perps have been invite-only since Oct 1.
How not to get Sybil-filtered
Projects actively remove wallets that look like one person pretending to be many. Here's what that looked like in real airdrops:
- Penalty if all of a wallet's transactions happened within one 48-hour window.
- Penalty for holding under 0.005 ETH with no more than one contract interaction.
- Disqualification for addresses flagged in the Hop Protocol Sybil bounty.
- Reportedly filtered around 803,000 wallets. Signals included shared funding sources, identical bridge amounts, and overlapping transaction timing.
- Combined Sybil detection with quality thresholds, so even genuine but low-effort wallets could be excluded.
Risks to watch
- My advice: stick to 1–3 wallets that you genuinely use. One authentic wallet usually beats many obvious farm wallets. Multi-wallet farming isn't just risky; it breaks most projects' rules.
How to avoid scams
- Wallet drainers: most modern scams don't ask for your seed phrase. They trick you into signing an "Approve" or "Claim" transaction that lets a malicious contract move your tokens.
- Fake links: copy claim links only from the project's official X bio, and compare the domain character by character.
- Claim fees: legitimate airdrops never ask you to pay a fee to unlock your reward.
- Urgency: treat every "claim now, ends in 1 hour" message as hostile until verified.
Lost in USDC in August 2025 through an approval the victim had signed 458 days earlier. This is why you revoke approvals after every claim.
Track everything
Create this sheet in Google Sheets. It shows you which projects are worth your time, helps you avoid repeating identical patterns, and keeps your records ready for tax time.
- Example — Arbitrum — Main — Swap + LP — Oct 16 — $0.40 — Active — From X bio

After you claim
- Taxes: in many countries, airdropped tokens count as income at their market value when you receive them. Record the date, amount, value, and transaction hash.
- Clean up: revoke the approvals you used during the claim with revoke.cash.
- Verify the token: check the contract address on Etherscan or Solscan against the official docs.
- Plan your exit: decide in advance how much you'll sell, hold, or move to your vault.
FAQ — Frequently asked questions
Do I need capital to start?
No. I started with $0. Testnets, quests, Human Passport, and free task farms cost only time. You'll eventually need a small amount of gas to claim.
How long until I see real results?
Expect months, not weeks. My first six months only paid for my internet data. Consistency is what compounds.
How many wallets should I use?
One to three wallets that you genuinely use. Running many look-alike wallets is the fastest way to get filtered.
Is airdrop farming safe?
It's as safe as your habits. Use a burner wallet for new dApps, never share your seed phrase, read every signature, and revoke approvals.
Are points the same as tokens?
No. Points are a record of activity. Until a project publishes a conversion formula and a claim date, points are a bet.
